Huawei's new flagship P8 and its incredible camera revealed

It now is kinda hard to imagine that Huawei used to have a ODM label as it is now the 4th biggest smartphone manufacturer globally. Despite releasing new phones as well as its own wearable, the Ascend P7 remains the flagship model in the Huawei family and it's high time for its successor to take its place.

The Huawei P8 was introduced to the public as a way to 'ignite creativity' in its user base. It's core design is not a departure from the Ascend P7 with a 6.4 mm thick metal body frame.

Design-wise the Huawei P8 is focused on a modern premium build with a full-metal unibody, quite a departure from the metal and glass build of previous builds. By undergoing a special nano-coating process, the phone is now splashproof and is guarded against accidental damage.

Huawei's new P8 has a 5.2'' IPS display though which thanks to narrow bezels which help keep the phone as compact as possible.

A new way of touchscreen interface has been introduced in the P8-using your knuckles to interact. You are able to double tap or just crop a small part f the screen for a screenshot, functions normally reserved for a stylus.

For all the photography enthusiasts out there, the P8's camera is the first phone-based camera to use a sensor with 4 types of sub-pixels- Red, Green, Blue and White. This will assist picture taking in low light conditions, while the 13 MP camera also features optical image stabilization. The camera also has an independent image processor, which Huawei claims to be of DSLR quality. If you have 4 friends with P8s, you can snap a video from 4 different angles with the new Director mode.

The Huawei P8 is powered by a Kirin 935 chipset. An octa-core Cortex-A53 processor runs the device at lower power usage. Huawei has promised a battery life that would last 2.3 days regardless of number of apps installed while heavy users can expect a battery life of 1.5 days on the 2,600 mAh capacity battery.

Huawei's new Signal+ technology is used by the P8. The phone features 2 antennas (one above and the other below) and it's able to switch between them lightning fast so that your calls and data connection remain unaffected. With Wi-Fi+, the phone immediately will pick out the best Wi-Fi signal.

With the dual antennas, comes 2 SIM card slots as well. The second SIM card slot is a Micro SIM/Micro SD combo which allows you to pop in a local card when aboard while having more storage space while at home. Both SIM cards come with 4G LTE functionality.

Huawei will offer a number of cases for the P8, the most interesting of which is the e-ink cover which adds a 4.3'' display that's perfect for reading in the daylight while outdoors.

2 versions of the Huawei P8 will be made available, the 16 GB model which costs €500 while the 64 GB costs an additional €100.
